It’s 1991, it’s the first round of the NBA playoffs
The NBA rolled into International mode last Saturday.
Team World defeated Team Africa 101-97 at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was the first ever NBA game on African soil and a variety of NBA stars, including Chris Paul, Bradley Beal, and the Gasol brothers, Marc and Pau took the floor, accompanying their African NBA brethren.
Team Africa consisted of first and second generation African players, including Golden State Warrior big man Festus Ezeli as well as a couple of Hall of Fame legends, Hakeem Olajuwon and Dikembe Mutombo.
Mutombo’s presence alone helped produce this absolute gem on the Warriors’ Instagram feed.
Here is a quick recap of action.
For what it’s worth, Ezeli posted five points, eight rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes.
You have to love a surprise on court visit from legends Hakeem Olajuwon and Dikembe Mutombo.
Ezeli also appeared to have a great time at the event and was said to be in a great mood throughout. He also found time to sharpen up his photobombing skills before the new NBA season begins.

All in all a fantastic event that has been long overdue since the NBA first visited Africa in 2003.
