The Charlotte Bobcats have unveiled their new (corporate) look for next season’s return to the old Charlotte Hornets name. In front of a fired up Time Warner Cable Arena crowd waving glow sticks to the sound of a hornet swarm, Bobcats Chairman Michael Jordan and former player Dell Curry spoke briefly before revealing the below video.

Jordan spoke to the fans about bringing back the buzz, reminding everyone that the city had asked for it and the organisation had delivered. From media release:
The logo represents several characteristics of actual hornets, including their swarming and attacking nature, along with their fierceness and relentlessness when protecting their nests. These same characteristics connect with the city of Charlotte itself. The city’s rebelliousness, aggressiveness and protective attributes date to the Revolutionary War when British commander General Cornwallis referred to Charlotte as “a hornet’s nest of rebellion.”
The new logo looks great in my opinion as it covers enough of the heritage with a real look to the future. Legally speaking, the Bobcats were not permitted to simply re-release the old branding.
