The Boston Celtics fought back behind one of the all-time great playoff performances from Rajon Rondo. Unfortunately for Celtic fans, it wasn’t enough though as the Heat took the Game 2 victory 115-111 and registered a 2-0 lead in the series. Rondo was amazing in this game, shooting 16-24 from the field to record a 44 point, eight rebound, 10 assist and three steal masterpiece. He was hitting shots from all over the court and even had the ball delivered to him from Paul Pierce on one drive and dish play… arguably the biggest role-reversal play of the playoffs.

Rajon Rondo was a Lone Ranger in Game 2 as other Celtics struggled.

For the Miami Heat it was once again the “LeBron and Wade Show” as the dynamic duo combined for 57 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists and three blocks. The Heat also got a significant contribution from Mario Chalmers who posted 22 points and six assists.

Boston hung tough in this game and had their fair share of the lead. A see-sawing battle saw the lead change multiple times in the latter stages before a missed 18 foot jumper by LeBron James over Rondo sent the game into overtime.

Miami remained poised and Dwyane Wade killed the game off with a three-point play over Kevin Garnett. Only moments earlier a missed foul call on a Rondo drive afforded the Heat a 5-on-4 at the other end, resulting in a dunk to Udonis Haslem, assisted by James.

The Celtics now face a (virtual) do-or-die Game 3 at home, with a fired up Heat looking to kill off the series. Boston will need solid contributions from both Rondo and Garnett initially but anything they can get from the injured duo of Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will also be critical.

It’s hard to see the Celtics pushing this past five games but it’s just as difficult to count them out of any series they play in.

Bring on Game 3.
