DeMarcus Cousins returned to his old stomping ground in Sacramento on Thursday night and slow-motioned his Pelicans to victory sans running mate Anthony Davis. Cousins received a standing ovation from the Sacramento crowd before tip-off and went on to dominate, finishing with 41 points, 23 rebounds and six assists.
What was most impressive about Cousins’ performance was the patience he played with on offense. Slowly worming his way through the (sometimes pedestrian) Sacramento defense, “Boogie” persevered throughout the contest, most of which his Pelicans were down BIG.
The Pelicans moved to 2-3 on the season and face the defending Eastern Conference champion Cavaliers on the weekend who have had their own share of issues. It’s unclear yet whether or not Anthony Davis will be back for that contest so it will likely again be up to Cousins to come up big.
A former King vs. the current King. I’m up for it.
