Ben Simmons’ Triple-Double Puts Pistons To The Sword In Detroit

Young Aussie Ben Simmons racked up his first triple-double in just his fourth pro game, helping his Sixers secure their first victory of the season in Detroit over the Pistons. Philly lead at every change and their attack was spearheaded by the young dynamic duo of Simmons (21p, 12r, 10a) and Joel Embiid who put together his own spicy stat line of 30 points, (11-15 from the field) nine rebounds and two steals.

The plays of interest spread like wildfire on Twitter throughout the game, whether it be a smart, emphatic or downright amazing highlight. Here’s a small sample…

Smart: Simons connects with Dario Saric on the inbound play, getting the ball right back for two points.

Emphatic: Joel Embiid with the hammer dunk.

Amazing: Simmons doing Simmons things… what a talent.

Smart, Emphatic, Amazing.

After the victory, Simmons was interviewed and asked about his performance. I’m not sure what he said to be honest, as I was mesmerised by Robert Covington’s cheeky bunny ears impression. This was perhaps the highlight of all highlights on this evening and I’m sure Benji said all the right things. (Taking it one game at a time, we came out aggressive, we played good defence, we have a lot to work on, we’ll get better at practice, etc, etc.)

Philly will look to build on this victory when they face the Houston Rockets in a few days time. Until then, us Aussies will continue to go mental about this triple-double and annoy any international followers we have that care less than we do.

Glorious!
