The Sacramento Kings have signed forward DeMarcus Cousins to a four-year maximum contract extension believed to be worth in excess of $60 million. The extension features neither a team or player option, gluing the often troublesome big man to Sac-Town through the 2017-18 season.
What sort of position must the Kings see themselves in to spend that much money on Cousins? We’re talking about a guy who can put up very good numbers but he has hardly demonstrated that he is someone to build around. Whether it be suspensions, dummy spits or simply running head coaches out of town, this contract has “bad news” written all over it.
It’s hard to imagine Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and the “Save the Kings” posse are happy with this one.
