2014 Playoff Predictions – First Round Eastern Conference

We’ve already covered the Western Conference with very little variation in picks, so now we move our attention to the East where things get a little more complicated.

Again, we have Bakes, Mitch and myself all casting our predictions, with additions from these friendly pals of Hoop Diary:

Bring on the East!

1- Indiana vs. 8- Atlanta

  • Hendo – Indiana in 5
  • Bakes – Indiana in 4
  • Mitch – Indiana in 7
  • Nick – Indiana in 5
  • Steve – Indiana in 5
  • Tom – Indiana in 5
  • Benyam – Indiana in 6
  • Adam – Indiana in 5
  • Brendan – Indiana in 6
  • Greg – Indiana in 5

At the time of publication, Indiana just laid an epic post-season egg in Game 1. Bakes’ sweep prediction got throat-punched real quick but quite frankly everyone’s series predictions are looking somewhat Space Jammed after this Pacer performance.

Maybe this is happening?

4- Chicago vs. 5- Washington

  • Hendo – Chicago in 5
  • Bakes – Chicago in 5
  • Mitch – Chicago in 7
  • Nick – Washington in 7
  • Steve – Chicago in 6
  • Tom – Washington in 6
  • Benyam – Chicago in 6
  • Adam – Chicago in 5
  • Brendan – Chicago in 7
  • Greg – Chicago in 6

Now THIS is more like it! Tom and Nick have predicted the upset with the Wizards sending fragile Bulls fans into an off-season coma. There’s no doubting this series will be entertaining but I fear for Twitter if the Wiz take this one out. Regardless of the outcome, it would be better if this guy was around.

2- Miami vs. 7- Charlotte

  • Hendo – Miami in 4
  • Bakes – Miami in 4
  • Mitch – Miami in 4
  • Nick – Miami in 6
  • Steve – Miami in 5
  • Tom – Miami in 4
  • Benyam – Miami in 4
  • Adam – Miami in 5
  • Brendan – Miami in 5
  • Greg – Miami in 5

It’s safe to say that this has a very predictable outcome as far as who advances, but the Bobcats are considerably improved this year. It would be huge for the Charlotte franchise to take a game at home and it would certainly bring the “buzz” for next season’s switch to the Hornets name.

Meanwhile, this is what will probably happen in this series to the Bobcats.

3- Toronto vs. 6- Brooklyn

  • Hendo – Brooklyn in 6
  • Bakes – Toronto in 6
  • Mitch – Brooklyn in 5
  • Nick – Brooklyn in 6
  • Steve – Brooklyn in 7
  • Tom – Toronto in 7
  • Benyam – Brooklyn in 7
  • Adam – Brooklyn in 6
  • Brendan – Brooklyn in 6
  • Greg – Brooklyn in 6

Another interesting list here as only Tom and Bakes have selected the higher seeded Raptors to advance. Perhaps it’s the ghosts of Pierce and Garnett that keep most of us thinking the Nets can pull this off.

There’s the picks for the East, who do you think has it right?

Thanks to all our pals for contributing, we’ll check back in with everyone for the second round.
